If You’re Not Having Fun Selling Real Estate, You’re Not Doing it Right

If You’re Not Having Fun Selling Real Estate, You’re Not Doing it Right

If You're Not Having Fun Selling Real Estate, You're Not Doing it Right

The secret of joy in work is one word – excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.
Pearl S. Buck

The more fun you have selling real estate, the more real estate you will sell.
Jennifer Allan, GRI

What is fun exactly? And how do you have some more of it?

Having more fun at work isn’t about long lunches, casual Fridays or bring-your-dog-to-work day. It’s about being really, really good at what you do. And knowing it. It’s about being proud of how you promote yourself and your business. It’s about making a comfortable (or even exceptional) income without changing who you are or becoming someone you don’t recognize. It’s about getting up every morning, eager to get to work, because you know you’re the best thing that could ever happen to your clients.

Now that’s fun.

In this sequel to Sell with Soul, Jennifer Allan shows you how to:

* Generate business and referrals from friends without making a nuisance of yourself;
* Win at the Numbers Game without spending a fortune or filling up land-fills;
* Become the agent who SELLS houses, not just lists them;
* Fill your pipeline by productively wasting your time;
* Painlessly and confidently negotiate commissions;
* List more houses by tossing out the listing presentation;
* Trust your gut when choosing a prospecting strategy;
…and of course… have more fun, make more money and enjoy the heck out of your real estate career!

    I must submit a huge thank you for some very compelling words from your new book, “If You’re Not Having Fun Selling Real Estate…You’re Not Doing it Right”. I had a second listing appointment the other night – to meet the parents – and co-owners – of a single gal’s house. I had just received your book – from Amazon, and needed a bit of a break from the anxiety of thinking I had to “sell” them too; so I thumbed through your book & stopped at Chapter 8. The New 3 P’s caught my attention, and when I flipped the page and read `Preparing the Relationship’, my jitters, 100’s of $$$ spent on insane “training seminars” went straight out of my head. I felt like me again. I felt confident, I knew exactly how I was going to approach the evening – making friends. If a third listing appointment was in the cards – great, if not, well, I wasn’t going to be thought of as the “white noise, pushy” agent. And the irony is, my career background for 20+ years was in corporate sales!

    Guess what? It worked like a charm. I was relaxed, I was myself, I listened, and it was evident I was more interested in them – the clients – than obtaining the listing. They signed, and we are all on our way to becoming friends. I love it! So, thanks for your words…and most importantly, for knowing people are more important than our coin purses.

    I am a 2nd year realtor and Jennifer’s first book rescued me from all of the training and books that I recived from my office, thankfully I read Selling with Soul before I even sent out my announcment letter.
    Her new book If you’re not having fun selling real estate, you’re not doing it right is even better and I have so many good ideas for 2010 thanks to this book!
    I am becoming a master of my chosen market area and that will be a top priority in 2010, I am nurturing my personal relationships, meeting new people and just being a friend who happins to sell Real Estate. I think I’ll even start a blog.
    Thanks Jennifer,
    Your Salt Lake City Realtor,
    Steve N.

    I have been following the wisdom of Jennifer Allan for some time now – her experience, sense of humor, and plain old fashioned common sense when it comes to being a real estate agent is priceless. I am not a pushy sales person. I hate doing some of the stuff that the other acclaimed “gurus of Real Estate” say you need to do in order to be successful. Cold calling people? Interrupting their lives to ask them if they want to buy or sell a home? Begging people constantly for referrals? No way! Not for me!

    “If You’re Not Having Fun Selling Real Estate You’re Not Doing it Right” is the book every agent – new and experienced – needs to read for an eye opening epiphany. You do not have to memorize scripts, make five billion calls, or constantly churn out hundreds of contacts in order to get that closing – unless of course that’s your idea of fun. Real Estate can be an amazingly rewarding and delightful career – I’m sure many agents who leave after the first year or two leave because they think they are not “salesy” enough…because they turn their nose up at harassing friends & family…or they don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on cheesy mailings that end up in the trash anyway…or because the thought of pounding the pavements knocking on doors and handing out flyers turns their stomach…that’s OK. Real Estate can be so enjoyable – and this book is a must read if you want to have fun, not panic attacks!
