    Real estate with Google Glass:
I’ve written a few posts on how Google Glass is going to affect the real
estate market. With that said, my career path isn’t in real estate, so most
of what I’ve said is speculation and I can’t really vouch for the
usefulness of the device in “real world” scenarios. But, the St. James
plantation is actually testing the device in the real estate market and
they are using it in ways that I assumed real estate agents would.
St. James Plantation sales persons are using the device to provide tours
and recorded videos of homes to their clients. Eddie Addison, a sales
executive at St. James, provided an example where a client, who is building
a house, can call them up and be provided with a tour and information on
    their home.
A client can call up Addison, ask about the progress of their home and
actually be shown the progress. Addison can put on the smart glasses, walk
around the home recording everything and, with a couple taps of the finger,
can have the video delivered to the client in minutes.
Ursula Ehrenfeld, IT director at St. James, said Google Glass “unifies all
the different communications channels. Email, phone, video, social media –
the device is capable of all of that simultaneously.”
St. James took advantage of the video calls feature when it was available.
Instead of recorded video, a client used to be able to watch a salesperson
walk through their home live, but Google removed the video calls feature,
so they can no longer able to do that. With that said, many developers are
working on replacements and St. James has a close eye on those developers.
You don’t really think of real estate as a career that would require much
innovation, but it’s an area that actually involves a lot of tech. Real
estate agents are always trying to be better than the rest, and technology
is sometimes required to do so. It will be a while before we see a bunch of
cyborg real estate agents, but I can definitely see Google Glass catching
on in this area when it becomes more available.

Realtors are a key market segment for #GoogleGlass. Here’s how we can use
them to do a home walk-though. Funny thing: I have been doing the same
exact thing with just a video camera for years but without those
    fashion-plate glasses.

    *+Google* *#Glass** and Real Estate*

The most obvious use for someone in Real Estate is to use Google Glass to
provide a live showing of a property with a busy or out-of-state client, to
Hangout and discuss the property live and answer any initial questions.

    *THE GOOD*
    – Comfortable: the fit is actually quite comfortable and it’s easy to wear
    for several hours
    – Intuitive: the user interface is easy to navigate and you get the hang
    of it very quickly
    – Accurate: the voice commands and dictation are good as long as you are in
    a somewhat quiet enivornment
    – Quality Photos/Video/Audio: the photos and recorded video are very high
quality and the audio is pretty clear

    *NEEDS IMPROVEMENT*
    – Google Hangouts: multi-step setup and poor video quality during the
    hangout
    – Battery: Hangouts and using the device for phone calls seems to drain the
battery and the device actually gets warm
    – iPhone: it doesn’t work with iOS devices (yet)
